MINORITY CELL

The Minority Cell in degree colleges is established to promote a fair, inclusive, and supportive educational environment for students belonging to religious and linguistic minority communities. The cell serves as a dedicated platform to address the specific needs and challenges faced by minority students, ensuring they receive equal opportunities and are not subject to discrimination or bias. It aims to create an environment where these students can pursue their academic and personal goals with confidence and dignity, contributing to their overall development and empowerment. The Minority Cell plays a key role in fostering a sense of community, advocating for the rights and welfare of minority students, and promoting a culture of diversity and inclusivity on campus.

It also undertakes the activities to develop awareness among the Minority students especially from the rural areas about the role of Government Degree College, Mandapeta in higher education avenues.

To fulfil the prescribed UGC norms, the Minority Cell was constituted in 2021 at Government Degree College, Mandapeta as a means for caring SC/ST students, teaching and administrative staffs’ amenities. The members of the staff in the cell are actively engaged in co-ordinating and solving the problems in matters of admissions and resources utilization in the college.

Mission

  1. To safeguard the rights of minority students and ensure they have equal access to all academic, financial, and extracurricular opportunities.
  2. To raise awareness among all students and staff about the importance of diversity, cultural understanding, and tolerance.
  3. To provide a safe space for minority students to voice their concerns and grievances.
  4. To enhance the social, cultural, and academic development of minority students through various initiatives and support programs.

Objectives

  1. Promote Inclusivity: To foster an inclusive environment that respects and celebrates diversity in all its forms.
  2. Support Minority Students: To provide academic, financial, and personal support to minority students to help them overcome any challenges they face.
  3. Awareness and Sensitization: To conduct programs that promote awareness about the rights, contributions, and needs of minority communities.
  4. Implement Welfare Schemes: To ensure effective implementation of government and institutional welfare schemes for minority students.
  5. Grievance Redressal: To establish a transparent and efficient mechanism for addressing grievances and complaints related to discrimination or harassment.

Functions

  1. Advisory and Support Role: Providing academic and personal counseling to minority students to help them overcome any challenges they may face.
  2. Organizing Workshops and Seminars: Conducting workshops, seminars, and awareness programs on topics related to diversity, cultural understanding, social justice, government schemes, scholarships, and career opportunities.
  3. Facilitating Access to Resources: Ensuring minority students have access to scholarships, financial aid, and other resources provided by the government or institution.
  4. Monitoring and Reporting: Monitoring the welfare of minority students and maintaining records related to their academic progress and overall well-being.
  5. Grievance Redressal: Establishing a structured and confidential grievance redressal mechanism to handle complaints related to discrimination, harassment, or any other issues faced by minority students.
  6. Collaboration and Networking: Working with other college committees and external organizations to promote the interests and welfare of minority students.

Grievance Redressal

  1. Submission of Complaints: Minority students can submit their grievances in writing or email or through an online portal or may drop his/her complaint in drop box, providing details of the issue they are facing.
  2. Acknowledgment: The Minority Cell acknowledges the receipt of the grievance and provides a timeline for its resolution.
  3. Investigation: The cell conducts a thorough investigation of the complaint by gathering facts, speaking with involved parties, and reviewing relevant documents.
  4. Resolution and Feedback: Based on the findings, the cell takes appropriate action to resolve the grievance. The outcome is communicated to the complainant, and feedback is sought to ensure the effectiveness of the redressal process.
  5. Follow-Up: The Minority Cell will hold a meeting every third Saturday of the month to discuss ongoing initiatives, address any grievances, and plan future activities.
