OBC CELL


The OBC (Other Backward Classes) Cell in degree colleges is established to support and promote the welfare of students belonging to Other Backward Classes, ensuring they have equal opportunities to achieve academic and personal success. The cell is dedicated to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment that addresses the unique needs and challenges faced by OBC students, providing them with the necessary resources and support to thrive in their educational pursuits. By advocating for their rights, addressing grievances, and promoting awareness about social justice and equality, the OBC Cell contributes to building a diverse and harmonious campus community.

It also undertakes the activities to develop awareness among the OBC students especially from the rural areas about the role of Government Degree College, Mandapeta in higher education avenues.

To fulfil the prescribed UGC norms, the OBC Cell was constituted in 2021 at Government Degree College, Mandapeta as a means for caring SC/ST students, teaching and administrative staffs’ amenities. The members of the staff in the cell are actively engaged in co-ordinating and solving the problems in matters of admissions and resources utilization in the college.

Mission

Objectives

  1. Support OBC Students: To provide academic, financial, and personal support to OBC students to help them overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
  2. Ensure Representation: To ensure adequate representation and participation of OBC students in college activities, committees, and decision-making processes.
  3. Raise Awareness: To conduct awareness programs about the rights, welfare schemes, and opportunities available to OBC students.
  4. Implement Welfare Schemes: To ensure the effective implementation of government policies and welfare schemes for OBC students.
  5. Grievance Redressal: To establish a transparent and efficient mechanism for addressing grievances related to discrimination, harassment, or any other issues faced by OBC students.

Functions

  1. Advisory and Support Role: Providing guidance and counseling to OBC students on academic, financial, and personal matters.
  2. Organizing Workshops and Seminars: Conducting awareness programs, workshops, and seminars on topics such as social justice, government schemes, scholarships, and career opportunities for OBC students.
  3. Facilitating Access to Resources: Ensuring that OBC students have access to scholarships, financial aid, hostel facilities, and other resources provided by the government or the institution.
  4. Monitoring and Reporting: Monitoring the academic progress and welfare of OBC students and maintaining records related to their needs and issues.
  5. Grievance Redressal: Establishing a structured and confidential grievance redressal mechanism to handle complaints of discrimination, harassment, or any other challenges faced by OBC students.
  6. Collaboration: Collaborating with other college committees and external organizations to promote the interests and welfare of OBC students.

Grievance Redressal

  1. Submission of Complaints: OBC students can submit their grievances in writing or through an online portal, providing details of the issue they are facing.
  2. Acknowledgment: The OBC Cell acknowledges the receipt of the grievance and provides a timeline for its resolution.
  3. Investigation: The cell conducts a thorough investigation of the complaint by gathering facts, speaking with involved parties, and reviewing relevant documents.
  4. Resolution and Feedback: Based on the findings, the cell takes appropriate action to resolve the grievance. The outcome is communicated to the complainant, and feedback is sought to ensure the effectiveness of the redressal process.

Follow-Up: The OBC Cell will hold a meeting every fourth Saturday of the month to discuss ongoing initiatives, address any grievances, and plan future activities.
