The SC/ST (Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes) Cell in degree colleges plays a crucial role in promoting social justice and equality by addressing the unique challenges faced by students from these communities. The primary aim of the SC/ST Cell is to provide a supportive environment that fosters academic excellence, personal growth, and socio-economic development for SC/ST students. This cell serves as a dedicated platform to address their concerns, facilitate access to educational resources, and ensure a conducive environment for their overall development. By empowering students and creating awareness, the SC/ST Cell contributes to building an inclusive campus culture that respects diversity and upholds the values of equality and social justice.

It also undertakes the activities to develop awareness among the SC/ST students especially from the rural areas about the role of Government Degree College, Mandapeta in higher education avenues.

To fulfil the prescribed UGC norms, the SC/ST Cell was constituted in 2021 at Government Degree College, Mandapeta as a means for caring SC/ST students, teaching and administrative staffs’ amenities. The members of the staff in the cell are actively engaged in co-ordinating and solving the problems in matters of admissions and resources utilization in the college.

Vision

To create an inclusive and equitable academic environment in degree colleges, where students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes can realize their full potential and thrive both academically and personally, free from discrimination or bias.

Mission

  1. To empower SC/ST students by ensuring equal access to all educational opportunities, resources, and support systems within the college.
  2. To promote awareness about the rights, privileges, and welfare schemes available for SC/ST students.
  3. To foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity by eliminating social discrimination and addressing grievances effectively.
  4. To enhance the social, cultural, and academic development of SC/ST students through various initiatives, training, and counseling sessions.

 

Objectives

  1. Provide Support and Assistance: To support SC/ST students in overcoming social, academic, and economic barriers to education.
  2. Ensure Representation: To ensure adequate representation of SC/ST students in college activities, committees, and decision-making processes.
  3. Raise Awareness: To educate students, faculty, and staff about social justice issues and the importance of diversity and inclusion.
  4. Implement Welfare Schemes: To ensure effective implementation of government policies and welfare schemes for SC/ST students.
  5. Address Grievances: To provide a safe and confidential mechanism for students to report grievances related to discrimination or harassment.

Functions

  1. Advisory Role: Providing guidance to SC/ST students on academic, financial, and personal matters.
  2. Organizing Workshops and Seminars: Conducting regular awareness programs, workshops, and seminars on topics related to social justice, government schemes, scholarships, and career opportunities.
  3. Facilitating Access to Resources: Ensuring that SC/ST students have access to scholarships, financial aid, hostel facilities, and other resources provided by the government or institution.
  4. Monitoring and Reporting: Monitoring the progress and performance of SC/ST students and maintaining records related to their academic and social well-being.
  5. Grievance Redressal: Establishing a structured grievance redressal mechanism to handle complaints of discrimination, harassment, or other issues faced by SC/ST students.
  6. Collaboration: Working with other college committees and external bodies to promote the interests and welfare of SC/ST students.

Grievance Redressal

  1. Submission of Complaints: SC/ST students can submit their grievances in writing or email or through an online portal or may drop his/her complaint in drop box, providing details of the issue they are facing.
  2. Acknowledgment: The SC/ST Cell acknowledges the receipt of the grievance and provides a timeline for resolution.
  3. Investigation: The cell conducts a thorough investigation of the complaint by gathering facts, speaking with involved parties, and reviewing relevant documents.
  4. Resolution and Feedback: Based on the findings, the cell takes appropriate action to resolve the grievance. The outcome is communicated to the complainant, and feedback is sought to ensure the effectiveness of the redressal process.
  5. Follow-Up: The ST/ST Cell will hold a meeting every first Saturday of the month to discuss ongoing initiatives, address any grievances, and plan future activities.
